HIGHWAY CODE - HELP US ENSURE WALKING IS NUMBER ONE
The Department for Transport is updating the Highway Code. This is our chance to change the rules to give pedestrians the protection they deserve.
Almost a quarter (23%) of pedestrian deaths occur at, or within 50m of, a crossing. We must make sure that the rules of the road are strengthened to make our streets safer for walking.
The time is now. The government is about to decide whether or not to push through these changes to the Highway Code:
- Putting people walking at the top of the road user hierarchy – so cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers must prioritise pedestrians when making decisions on the road.
- Making it clear that people driving should now give greater priority to people crossing the road on crossings and at junctions
- Giving greater emphasis to slower speeds – making it clear that people driving should not exceed 20mph.
We need your help to push through these changes. We rely on support from individuals for our campaigning work, and your gift will help us to make a big difference.
Can you chip in? A donation of just £15 will help us continue our vital campaign.
